Morrowind Patch Better Bodies Of Medina

Just a heads up that Ion Storm just released patch v1.1 for DX:IW.Changes contained within the v1.1 patch:- Defaulted Bloom to off when starting a new game.(My take: Eh.)- Adjusted mouse movement to eliminate feeling of 'lagginess'.(My take: Never experienced any lag and I didnt change the mouselag. Correction, only had lag problems, but reloading the map fixed it)- Adjusted the HUD so that it is pushed toward the edges of the screen.(My take: I didnt mind it small, but some did, so thats cool)- Added option for turning all shadows off. This can massively improve performance, especially at higher resolutions.(My take: Totally makes me able to run at 1280x1024.)- Shrunk all text sizes.(My take: Not bad)- Reworked mouse-based UI control within the inventory and biomod screens. Right-clicking will now swap items in the inventory and toolbelt screen.
Added buttons for installing weapon mods and biomods. The biomod/inventory/datavault hotkeys are now toggles (the same buttons will now both open and close these subscreens).(My take: In theroy this is good for me, but I got used to the old one.
I'll cope, tho.)- Added quicksave/quickload keys. (F10/F12)- Non-hostile AI's will now go hostile much sooner if shot.- Eliminated monitor resyncing during level transition and savegame loads.- Increased the headshot damage multiplier for the pistol.(My take: Silenced Assassin's pistol - cheaper sniper.- Increased the damage of the stun prod.(My take: I never used it in DX, for crissake). A patch already??? Didn't the game just come out a week or two ago?Is that list of changes a complete list? I'm still not going to buy it.quote:- Increased the damage of the stun prod.(My take: I never used it in DX, for crissake)I played through the original Deus Ex without killing a single human, and found that weapon invaluable in the task. Unfortunately ammunition for it was quite sparse throughout the game.
Prior to that undertaking I had no idea that you could take out an MJ12 Commando with just one application of the riot prod. Right to the small of the back. I think the only humaniod character that couldn't be rendered instantly unconcious were the MiBs. Which would take at least two applications of the weapon.

Quote:Yeah, and what are the Xbox users supposed to do?I think they're supposed to buy PC's.No doubt. I wasn't about to touch the Xbox version considering I don't use Live.
The game also comes with VS mode so you can race freely with your friends and even battle with them. The getaway ps2 iso.

But I think Ion Storm will offer a patch through there.quote:That's good that they're fixing up some of the mistakes in the full version, although most of the tweaks they include are the kind of thing that users could, and probably have tweaked if they've been following the forums. Any note on how much of an increase in stunprods power? It was kind of goofy standing there for 30 seconds pumping electricity through some poor guy. Some of the tweaks I don't think the community cracked yet, like weapon damage, headshot multipliers, and mouse UI changes. Correct me if I'm wrong. The shadows thing seems like a big one.I was pretty hard on the Invisible War launch, but I give credit to Specter for admitting to the game's weaknesses and patching things so quickly. This is one of the most direct, down-to-earth gameplay fixes I've seen since Quake 1-3.

Quote:Isn't the shadows thing a fairly big part of the supposed graphical hook in the game? Without them, it really wouldn't look anything special, would it?Yes and no. There was supposed to be a Thief-like light-based hiding system in the game, but from all reports the shadows do fuck-all for actual hiding, and the performance hit from the shadows is still completely obscene, to the point where people who disable the shadows are now magically able to play the game at higher resolutions with better framerates. I'd rather have good frames than a dark look to the game - if I care that much about the game being dark I'll adjust the 'Brightness' slider. View image here.
Excellent news. This patch looks like it addresses most of my niggles with the game, especially the addition of quicksave/load keys and the adjusted weapons damage. I'm not sure about disabling shadows because I've become used to playing at 800x600 and the shadows are rather nice. Although I have noticed that Alex D doesn't have a shadow. Now if they will actually make the AI not so retarded, then the game might actually move from my 'Ignore' list to my 'Buy when it hits $20' list.Something to realise is that the demo level comprises parts of a much larger level hacked together, and the guards you encounter there aren't completely representative all all AI in the game. To be honest the AI in the full game isn't all that bad, although still a fair way away from being great. Actually one amusing quirk I've noticed that I haven't seen anyone else comment on is that enemies can often hit the alarm button when their hand is still a good foot of two away from it. Most irritating when you're trying to snipe them at the last minute.

Deus Ex isn't a STFA port, it's a STFA game.Okay, google, wikipedia and everything2 are stumped: What does STFA mean in this context? Some of my complaints with DX2 is that there are stupid things which aren't a tradeoff, they're just stupid because nobody thought better. For instance, your video settings are stored in your savegame: Every time you start up, it's 640x480 till you load your game. Unintuitive, and comepltely pointless. As for the changes that are 'the xbox's fault', one of the worst is the level size.
(As in, how far you can go before loading) You have to organize when you do what, otherwise you'll end up going through 6 loading zones for a simple subquest. Since I know someone will call BS on this, here's a example, with very minor spoilage:Suppose you want to do a mission for the manager of queequegs in cairo, which involves talking to someone on floor 110. Well, the fastest route involves:south medina-arc lvl 107-arc lvl 110 and then back again, which is six loads. You spend far more time loading than you do running, which is rediculous. There are worse examples. Quote:Without them, it really wouldn't look anything special, would it?Well, I seem to be seeing a lot of bumpmapping on the walls.
Don't know if turning off shadows turns that off yet.quote:I was disappointed with the demo too, but the full game (what I've played of it so far anyway) is pretty good. It's not everything we'd hoped for, but it's still Deus Ex. Don't be so quick to dismiss it.What he said. The demo is ass compared to the game. And that chopper pilot, Sid Black? Yeah, you can let his chopper rot in hock if you want - I never used him on my first run-through of DXIW. That and the two locations in the demo aren't set up that way in the game - there's a full zone between them. There are a lot more choices that seem to affect what you can and cannot experience in the game, unlike the original.
I'm planning on playing it through a few more times in the near future to try other avenues of story advancement.
